Though her favorite books are high concept, she is looking for a wide variety of plots and character types.ĭiverse authors are encouraged to submit their work. Her agenting philosophy is that she represents authors, not books, and she aims to work with writers who have a vision for a long, creative career. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Editing from UC Berkeley.
When she decided to move to the business side of publishing, she attended the Columbia Publishing Course with the aim of becoming a literary agent. After college, she earned a Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences and worked as a public librarian specializing in services to teens and adults. Carlisle refused to major in English in college because she didn’t think there was anything fun to read on the required lists.
